Adrian Riley, wrongfully convicted of a triple homicide in 1995, currently resides in MCF Moose Lake. Adrian has been working tirelessly to educate himself while incarcerated, first attaining a GED, followed by a paralegal certificate, and is currently working on completing a degree in Business Essentials.
In addition to working on securing his own freedom, Adrian has spent countless hours helping other incarcerated people throughout his time in prison. Adrian has helped teach others to read and write, and while in the process of teaching reading and writing he also reads correspondence for those who cannot yet read, and he helps write letters for those who cannot yet write themselves. Adrian does all of this work despite entering the prison system at age 19, himself being only at a 2nd or 3rd grade reading level due to dyslexia which went undiagnosed/untreated for much of his early life. Despite nearly insurmountable odds, Adrian works to help those who cannot help themselves at every opportunity, even knowing that many times he might help someone else secure their freedom long before he secures his own freedom.
Adrian's mother was born and raised in Mississippi in the 1960s. After spending time in both Illinois and Minnesota, Mary realized that she felt at home in Minnesota and moved the family here in the 1980s. Mary dealt with a number of major challenges while Adrian was a young man, including being stabbed multiple times by her husband during the same time period where Adrian was arrested and ultimately wrongfully convicted of the crimes that someone else committed and blamed him for. Despite her many personal struggles, Mary remained a steadfast ally and mentor to Adrian throughout all stages of his encounter with the criminal justice system from his arrest all the way through to his current incarceration. Adrian's father lives in Illinois and is in regular contact with
We hope that Adrian will finally secure his freedom while his case is reviewed by the Conviction Review Unit.
